Suggested Pre-read: Before you jump into this blog, it's suggested that you get familiar with the Color Season Analysis, as covered in this blog.
_
Have you ever wondered why all colors don't stand out the same way on you? Maybe you look great in silver jewelry, but gold just washes you out, or wearing a light pink blouse just makes you appear to be all one color. This is because of your “color season,” which is created based on your skin tone, hair color, eye color, and overall undertones and contrast in your features. If you already know that you’re an autumn, keep reading to find your subset and the makeup colors you should be using.
How do I Know if I’m an Autumn?
People with the general autumn color season have darker, warmer eyes in colors like olive green, hazel, amber, golden brown, and occasionally dark chocolate brown. You may also have slightly greyish eyes. Their skin tones are also warmer, meaning that gold jewelry pops against their bodies, but silver makes them look a little washed out.
Autumn season people usually have fair, light, medium, tan, or dark skin tones, and their hair will usually have a golden, reddish, pinkish, or brown hint of color, such as golden blonde, auburn, medium auburn, light golden brown, medium brown, or dark golden brown.
If these characteristics fit you, you’re probably an autumn! Or you can simply take this 2-minute quiz and find your color season.
What are the Autumn Subsets?
There are three subsets to the autumn color palette: dark(or deep) autumn, warm (or true) autumn, and soft autumn. Each subgroup has its own range of colors that work best on your complexion, so finding the right one will help you so much with making the right purchase decision, especially now that you're buying everything online.
GoPlay Cosmetics' award-winning LIPSKIT is exactly what you need if you struggle to find colors that work for you or simply want to have access to tons of colors that complement your color profile, in an affordable and sustainable way. If you are indeed an autumn, the GoPlay LIPSKIT in Warm undertone is what you need to create colors that would perfectly suit your skin tone.
1. Dark/Deep Autumn
Dark autumn people have darker hair colors, such as dark brown, deep chestnut, dark auburn, or black with warmer undertones, such as gold. Your hair will have a golden, red or yellow halo around it in full sun. Your skin tone is probably more neutral with a slightly warmer undertone, ranging from golden beige to caramel, bronze to warm black, or golden fair to warm olive. You may have a few freckles and might be paler in the winter than in the summer, but you probably tan more than you burn. Deep autumns can have any eye color, but most commonly warm browns and dark hazels.
Colors to wear and do makeup with:
Coppers, reddish tones, olive and dark greens, and greenish or warmer blues, turquoise and warm purples will pop on your skin tone the most.
Colors to avoid: pastels of any color, dusky shades, and bright white. You will want to avoid bright spring hues, which are opposite on the color season wheel.
Celebrities: Angela Bassett, Kim Kardashian, Mindy Kaling
2. Warm/True Autumn
Warm autumns will have reddish hair colors, with clear, warm skin undertones. Your eye color will be amber, golden brown, a warm chocolate brown, or topaz. You will have an apparent golden glow to your complexion, not extremely pale.
Colors to wear and do makeup with: warm browns, olive green, darker/greenish blues, and ivory all will make your skin, eyes, and hair pop.
Colors to avoid: pastel blues and fuschia are your worst nightmare! True black and white will also wash you out.
Celebrities: Jennifer Lopez, Julia Roberts, Amber Heard
3. Soft Autumn
Soft autumns have slightly mousy-colored, brown, or strawberry blonde hair with a very low contrast level. Your skin may be a little warm but will probably be neutral, and you will have a beige, ivory, latte, or warm olive skin tone that doesn’t seem to clash with your eyes, as does dark autumn. Your eye color will be neutral, too, with greyish hazel or light brown tones.
Colors to wear and do makeup with: medium, gentle tones of everything, including greys, blues, and purples. Think all the colors of autumn but slightly greyed out or muted. Mossy green shades as eyeshadow will look superb on you.
Soft Autumn Colors
Colors to avoid: Dark colors, blacks, extremely cool tones, and extremely warm tones.
Celebrities: Gisele Bundchen, Tyra Banks, Angelina Jolie
Great, but does this mean I have to change my whole wardrobe and makeup?
Not at all. The key is to bring your colors closer to your face. So, for sure go ahead and wear all the colors in your wardrobe, but just a neck scarf, or big earrings, or the right color lipstick from your personal color palette will do the trick.
We've all had faux-pas with colors, especially makeup colors. And who can blame us? All the cool makeup brands make it look like our lives would be sorted if wee just get that hot pink lip on the model's face. It's too tempting. But what they don't tell you, is that they pick the model, based on the lip color and it doesn't look as striking on everyone.
So if you want to stop playing tag with the makeup brands, then consider choosing the GoPlay LIPSKIT which lets you create your personal best lip colors in seconds in a sustainable way. The colors are high quality, highly pigmented (think Tarté lip paint), and you can even change the texture from matte-to-moist-to-tint. The kit is custom assembled for your undertone, and the GoPlay app suggests you your personal best colors with their LIPSKIT blends.
